Oklahoma Governor-elect Mary Fallin today named staffers to fill policy, legal and communications positions in her administration.
Katie Altshuler, a policy aide with both federal and state level experience, will serve as Fallin’s policy director. Altshuler most recently served as policy director for former Speaker Chris Benge. In Washington, she served as the staff director for the U.S. Senate Republican Policy Committee under Senator John Kyl. Altshuler has also worked for U.S. Senator Don Nickles as his senior floor assistant in the Republican Whip’s office. She is a graduate of Sweet Briar College.
Judy Copeland will serve as Fallin's general counsel, a position she also held under former Governor Frank Keating. Copeland currently serves as an Assistant United States Attorney. Before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office in 2004, Copeland was an Assistant District Attorney in Oklahoma County where she provided legal advice to county officials. From 1997 to 2003, Copeland served as deputy general counsel and then general counsel to former Governor Frank Keating. Prior to that, she served as an Assistant Attorney General under Attorneys General Drew Edmondson and Susan Loving. Copeland attended Northeastern State University as an undergraduate prior to graduating from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.
Alex Weintz will serve as communications director for Governor-elect Fallin’s transition team as well as in her administration. Weintz previously served as communications director for the Fallin for Governor Campaign after leaving his position as communications director in Fallin’s congressional office. Weintz is a graduate of Washington and Lee University.
